Ep 2: Building a STEM Curriculum for the Modern Era with Dr. David Ruth

Dr. David Ruth is in charge of reshaping how we teach Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) at the University of Austin. STEM is the foundation of innovation for our country and society. Unfortunately, it seems like many of our higher education institutions have failed to evolve to the market's current needs. So in this week's episode, we discuss what it looks like to build a new STEM curriculum that incorporates open and honest inquiry amongst its students and a relevant curriculum that adequately prepares the next generation of engineers and builders of our world.

Dr. Ruth has an extensive background serving our country, as a retired Captain in the U.S. Navy he served aboard a nuclear attack submarine and an aircraft carrier, before heading back to his alma mater at the United States Naval Academy teaching high-level mathematics.

How has the distribution of innovation shifted outside of educational institutions? Well, Dr. Ruth explains that in today’s world when someone looks for innovation, they probably won’t look at education institutions but innovation ecosystems like Silicon Valley and Austin. What does this mean for institutions selling innovation as a cornerstone of their teachings to prospective students?
